Living Trees of Livingstonia

Living Trees of Livingstonia project is in the Rumphi District of Malawi. Funded by the Scottish Government, and implemented by Thrive with Rumphi organisation Living Trees of Livingstonia, the project aim is to improve the environment, reduce poverty and increase school attendance through School Orchard Committees. These have established orchards and are growing and cooking school breakfasts. Some are selling some produce to earn income with which they are improving their schools. Each School Orchard Committee consists of parents and teachers of the school pupils. Living Trees of Livingstonia addresses a wide range of environment, employment, nutrition, education and girls’ education. In piloting profit-making orchards owned and run by schools, the project proves that Malawi can meet its most urgent needs independently and sustainably.
